Navsari : In a groundbreaking move to highlight women’s empowerment in law enforcement, Gujarat’s women police officers will take full charge of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security during the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ program in Vansi Borsi, Navsari, on International Women’s Day. Minister of State for Home Affairs, Harsh Sanghvi, announced that this historic decision will serve as a milestone in Indian policing, setting a precedent for women’s leadership in security and law enforcement.

The event, which will witness the participation of over 1.50 lakh women, aims to showcase the strength and capabilities of women in maintaining peace and security at high-profile events. Sanghvi emphasized that this initiative would not only be a proud moment for Gujarat but also an inspiration for the entire nation.

Women Officers to Take Full Control of Security Arrangements

For the first time in India, an entire security operation for a Prime Minister’s event will be managed exclusively by women officers. From the helipad to the venue, and from traffic management to the event’s law enforcement, women in uniform will be in charge.

The security arrangements will be led by Principal Secretary of the Home Department, Nipurna Torwane, who will oversee the operations. The deployment will include:

2,145 Women Police Constables

187 Women Police Sub-Inspectors (PSIs)

61 Women Police Inspectors (PIs)

19 Women Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs)

5 Women Superintendents of Police (SPs)

1 Woman Deputy Inspector General (DIG)

1 Woman Additional Director General of Police (ADGP)

Male officers will be assigned only to areas like parking and traffic management, while women officers will be responsible for every other aspect of security, including the Prime Minister’s safety.

Women Power in Law and Order

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Harsh Sanghvi lauded the Gujarat Police for this unprecedented step, stating, “On International Women’s Day, Mahila Shakti (women power) will send a strong message about the critical role of women in ensuring safety, law, and order. This initiative demonstrates that women are more than capable of handling high-security responsibilities at the national level.”

The initiative is expected to boost confidence in women police officers across the country and encourage more representation of women in leadership roles within law enforcement.

A Milestone in Indian Policing

The decision to entrust an event of this scale entirely to women police officers reflects Gujarat’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment in law enforcement. It also aligns with the broader vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has repeatedly emphasized the need for increased participation of women in all sectors, including policing.

With Gujarat setting the stage for this landmark event, the initiative is likely to inspire other states to take similar steps in recognizing and promoting women’s leadership in security forces.
