Lok Sabha Election Gujarat : Bharuch police nabs a trader with Rs 27 lakh cash 

Bharuch : As the Lok Sabha election fervor sweeps through Gujarat, law enforcement agencies and the Election Commission have intensified their vigilance to monitor the movement of money across the state. In a recent development, Bharuch Railway Police apprehended a trader from Dahod at Ankleshwar railway station, seizing cash amounting to a staggering Rs 27 lakh. The arrest occurred amidst a stringent checking operation conducted by static teams deployed in light of the ongoing electoral process.

According to sources close to the investigation, police personnel stationed at Ankleshwar railway station were particularly watchful for suspicious individuals arriving via the Haridwar-Valsad express train on  Friday. Their scrutiny bore fruit when they intercepted a person carrying a bag, arousing suspicion. Upon inspection, the bag yielded a substantial sum of cash, leading to the immediate detention of the individual.

The arrested individual is identified as Yogesh Preetmani, a resident of Jhulelal Society in Dahod, known for his involvement in the tobacco and betel nut trade. Preetmani had purportedly journeyed to Ankleshwar with the intent of delivering the seized cash to another trader. However, law enforcement intervened before the transaction could take place.

In response to the apprehension, a senior police official commented, “We have confiscated a significant amount of Rs 27 lakh from the possession of the Dahod trader. Our investigation is underway to ascertain the identity and whereabouts of the intended recipient of the money in Ankleshwar.” Furthermore, authorities have alerted the Income Tax department to facilitate further necessary actions in the matter.

The incident underscores the heightened scrutiny and proactive measures undertaken by law enforcement agencies and electoral authorities to curb the illicit flow of money during the electoral process.
