Gujarat : Thieves Target Surat Municipal Corporation ward office in Varachha zone

Surat : In a brazen act of defiance, thieves struck the heart of Surat’s administration by breaking into the Magob ward office of the Surat Municipal Corporation under the Varachha zone on Wednesday night. The audacious burglary saw the perpetrators escape with computers, printers, CCTV cameras, and other vital equipment, raising concerns about rising security lapses in government offices.

According to police reports, the thieves gained entry by breaking the lock of the ward office, suggesting a well-planned operation. They meticulously targeted valuable electronic equipment, including computers, printers, and the crucial CCTV camera system, seemingly aware of its potential to hinder their identification.

The theft came to light only on Thursday morning when employees arrived at the office and discovered the ransacked premises. The incident was immediately reported to senior officials, who in turn alerted the police.

Responding to the call, a police team descended upon the scene and launched an investigation. While the absence of CCTV footage poses a significant challenge, officers have begun recording statements from employees and questioning shopkeepers and beggars in the vicinity, hoping to glean any leads that might shed light on the perpetrators.

This incident has come as a shock to the city, especially considering the target – a government office entrusted with public services. The audacity of the crime and the apparent ease with which they bypassed security measures have sparked concerns about the effectiveness of existing security protocols in government buildings.

“It’s alarming that thieves are targeting government offices, places expected to be well-secured,” said a local resident, expressing the community’s growing anxiety. “We hope the police will apprehend the culprits  and strengthen security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.”
