Ahmedabad : Gujarat Home Minister, Harsh Sanghavi, has denied reports of a hooch tragedy in the Lihoda village of Gandhinagar, despite two confirmed deaths and four critical conditions linked to alleged alcohol consumption. The incident sent shockwaves through the state, prompting accusations from the opposition Congress party against the ruling BJP government’s efforts to curb spurious liquor sales.

In a statement addressing the situation, Sanghavi emphasized that preliminary investigations suggest the deaths might not be directly related to hooch consumption. He assured the public that Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has ordered strict measures to tackle the social evil of liquor and eradicate its illegal production and distribution.

“While the cause of death is still under investigation, we want to assure the public that a report is expected today, which will shed more light on the specifics of the incident,” Sanghavi stated. “Strict investigations and necessary actions have already been initiated. A team of senior officials is diligently working to uncover the truth behind this unfortunate event.”

The Home Minister maintained his stance against politicizing the tragedy. “Our priority is to understand the facts and provide necessary support to the affected families,” he asserted. “We will provide timely updates as the investigation progresses and ensure that justice is served.”

Sanghavi’s statement comes amidst mounting pressure from the Congress, which has blamed the BJP government’s alleged laxity in enforcing liquor laws for the Lihoda incident. Congress leaders have demanded a thorough investigation and immediate action against those responsible for the sale of any spurious or illegal alcohol.
