Surat : Donate Life Facilitates 21st Lung Donation

Surat :Donate Life NGO orchestrated the 21st successful lung donation, alongside the contribution of liver, kidneys, and corneas from the late Rekha Rana, 47, an employee at a biscuit manufacturing factory in Surat. This selfless act has granted a renewed chance at life and vision to six individuals in need.

The inspiring donation journey began when Rekha Rana, a resident of Kim near Surat, experienced a severe epileptic attack on November 7, leading to her admission to BAPS Swaminarayan Hospital in Adajan, Surat. Tragically, MRI reports confirmed a severe brain stroke, rendering her brain dead.

Following this diagnosis, Donate Life NGO stepped in, offering counsel and support to Rekha Rana’s family regarding the vital opportunity to donate her organs. With the family’s compassionate approval and the unwavering support of the medical team and management at BAPS Pramukh Swami Hospital in Surat, the noble decision to donate organs was made.

The collaborative effort extended beyond the hospital walls, with the Surat City Police providing a Green Corridor, expediting the transportation of the lungs from Surat airport to Ahmedabad. The lungs found their way to CIMS Hospital Ahmedabad for transplantation, while the liver and both kidneys were successfully transplanted at IKDRC Ahmedabad. Additionally, Rekha Rana’s corneas were donated to Lok Drashti Chakshu Bank in Surat.

This singular act of generosity adds to Donate Life’s impactful journey, marking the contribution of 1185 organs and tissues to date. Among these donations are 488 kidneys, 210 livers, 49 hearts, 42 lungs, 8 pancreases, 1 intestine, 4 hands, and 383 corneas, offering renewed hope and vision to 1088 organ failure patients both nationally and globally.
