AHMEDABAD: With the Jain community preparing for the sacred Paryushan Mahaparva, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani visited the revered Mahudi Jain temple in Gandhinagar district on Tuesday, accompanied by his wife Dr Preeti Adani, elder son Karan Adani and daughter-in-law Paridhi.
The family offered prayers and sought blessings at the historic pilgrimage centre, which attracts thousands of devotees from Jain and other communities.
Mahudi, historically known as Madhupuri, is a prominent Shwetambar Jain pilgrimage site. Besides shrines dedicated to the 24 Jain Tirthankaras, the temple complex is renowned for the shrine of Shri Ghantakarna Mahavira, revered by devotees as a protective deity.
The Adani family’s visit comes ahead of Paryushan, which will be observed from September 8 to 15 this year. The festival is marked by prayer, fasting, self-discipline and introspection, culminating in Samvatsari, when Jains seek forgiveness through the traditional message of “Michhami Dukkadam.”
The visit also reflected the Adani family’s association with philanthropy and community service. The Adani Foundation, the group’s social development arm, works across education, healthcare, livelihoods, rural development, women’s empowerment and community infrastructure.
The foundation’s philosophy, “Seva Hi Sadhana Hai”, emphasises service as a means of social responsibility.
The Adani family also visited the Shri Ajitnath Bhagwan Shwetambar Jain Derasar at Taranga Hills earlier this year on Akhatriya.
The family’s Mahudi visit was described as an expression of faith, humility, compassion and service, with prayers for the continued success of its social initiatives.
Mahudi is also famous for its traditional sukhdi prasad, which devotees are allowed to carry outside the temple premises.
Adani’s visit comes days after the US Department of Justice dismissed a charge sheet against him, Sagar Adani and others on August 10.
