Surat : Gas Leakage Incident at Neelam Industries Sparks Investigation

Surat : The Director of Industrial Safety and Health, Gujarat State, has launched a thorough investigation into a heart-wrenching incident that claimed the lives of four innocent workers in the gas leakage incident at Neelam Industries, nestled in the tranquil Mota Borsara village of Mangrol taluka, Surat district.

On August 2, a catastrophic event unfolded at Neelam Industries, located within the Kim GIDC area of Mangrol taluka. Four workers tragically succumbed to suffocation after inadvertently inhaling toxic gas while opening drums filled with hazardous chemicals. The incident has not only shaken the families of the victims but also ignited concerns about workplace safety and the handling of dangerous substances.

The calamitous disaster occurred as workers attempted to unseal drums containing the chemicals. The noxious fumes swiftly overwhelmed them, leading to the untimely deaths of all four individuals. The victims were identified as Imtiyas Abdul Shaikh (45), Amin Patel and Arun Umar (both aged 22), and Raghaji Umar (54). This heart-wrenching tragedy has deeply affected multiple communities, as the victims hailed from Ankleshwar, Kapodra, and Rajasthan.

In response to the incident, the Director of Industrial Safety and Health has taken swift action by directing the joint director in Surat to conduct a thorough investigation. The goal is to uncover the underlying causes of the incident and ensure that justice is served for the lives lost. The report is expected to be submitted to the office at the earliest.

The incident garnered attention after Darshan Naik, the general secretary of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), brought the issue to light. Naik’s representation of the matter prompted the Director of Industrial Safety and Health to take immediate action and launch the investigation.

The local police responded promptly to the incident, swiftly arriving at the scene to manage the situation and investigate the tragic event. The bodies of the deceased were carefully transported to Sadhana Hospital in Kim for post-mortem examinations, as authorities worked diligently to uncover the facts surrounding the incident.

The loss of these lives serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of safeguarding workers’ lives and prioritizing their well-being in all industrial settings.”
