Ahmedabad : The Union Health ministry has appointed Dr. RG Patel, director of Sunflower Hospital and a renowned gynaecologist and obstetrician, to serve as an expert member of the National Assisted Reproductive Technology and Surrogacy Board.

The appointment of Dr. Patel to the National Assisted Reproductive Technology and Surrogacy Board is in accordance with the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021 and the Surrogacy (Regulation) Act, 2021, and is made pursuant to an official notification.

“It is an honour and a privilege to serve on the National Advisory Board on Assisted Reproductive Technology and Surrogacy. To the Prime Minister of India, Narendrabhai Modi, and the Minister of Health, Mansukh Mandaviya, I offer my deepest gratitude for their confidence in me and for the opportunity to serve on the board. Dr. Patel pledged, “As an expert member of the board, I will do my best to contribute.”

Dr. Patel is an expert in the fields of gynecology, infertility, In-vitro fertilisation (IVF), and assisted reproductive technology (ART). For over 22 years, he has helped couples start families through in vitro fertilisation (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and ovum donation. He is responsible for over 20,000 live births thanks to his IVF and ICSI work, which he performs on an annual basis at a rate of around 1,500 procedures. Additionally, he has performed over 2800 IUI procedures with 100% success.

The Assisted Reproductive Technology Act aims to bring a positive shift towards providing valuable patient experience, and it plays a crucial role in shaping the future of artificial reproductive technologies in the country.

“Since the infertility burden in the country is increasing, it is crucial to have a proper regulatory framework that enhances patient satisfaction,” he said.
