GANDHINAGAR : More than 4.50 lakh Rakhis prepared by Gujarat’s Anganwadi workers will reach soldiers guarding the nation’s borders this Raksha Bandhan, turning a traditional festival into a heartfelt expression of gratitude for the armed forces.

The Rakhis were sent under the state’s “Ek Rakhi Desh Ke Jawano Ke Naam” initiative, which has been observed for the past three years to honour soldiers who celebrate festivals away from their families.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and Women and Child Welfare Minister Dr Manisha Vakil were present when the Raksha Sutra Kalash was symbolically handed over to senior personnel representing the Army, Air Force, Navy, BSF and CRPF.

“Soldiers remain away from their families while dedicating themselves to protecting the country. These Rakhis carry the prayers, affection and gratitude of Gujarat’s women for their safety and service,” officials said.

The initiative aims to create an emotional connection between soldiers at the borders and families back home. The Rakhis were collected from Anganwadi workers across Gujarat and sent as a gesture of solidarity and respect.

The Raksha Sutra Kalash was received in Gandhinagar by personnel associated with the Army, BSF, CRPF and NDRF.

Senior Women and Child Development Department officials, including Secretary Rakesh Shankar and Commissioner Dr Ranjit Kumar Singh, along with security personnel and Anganwadi workers, attended the programme.
