SURAT: As businesses in Surat and South Gujarat increasingly look beyond domestic markets, experts from the U.S. Commercial Service have urged local industrialists to undertake detailed market research, understand American regulations and plan finances carefully before entering the US market.
The guidance was provided during an interactive session organised by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate Mumbai and U.S. Commercial Service at Sanhati Bhavan, Sarsana, on September 24.
Manoj Desai, Principal Commercial Service Officer at the Consulate General, and Sangeeta Taneja, Senior Commercial Specialist and Office Director of the U.S. Commercial Service, Ahmedabad, briefed entrepreneurs on business expansion and investment opportunities in the US.
SGCCI President Ashok Jirawala said Surat’s entrepreneurs were increasingly transitioning from local businesses to global operations, but stressed the need for careful preparation.
“Entrepreneurs from Surat and South Gujarat are now stepping out of traditional frameworks and expanding their business horizons into global markets. However, achieving global success requires a systematic study of local regulations, market dynamics, consumer needs and the business environment,” Jirawala said.
He added that SGCCI would continue helping local businesses connect with international markets.
Desai also invited SGCCI members and industrialists to participate in the SelectUSA Investment Summit 2027, describing it as an important platform for companies exploring greenfield and brownfield investment opportunities in the United States.
The summit enables investors to interact with economic development organisations, government representatives and potential business partners from different US states.
During the session, experts highlighted investment opportunities in renewable energy, clean technology, pharmaceuticals, high-end engineering and defence manufacturing.
Taneja advised entrepreneurs to avoid common mistakes while entering a new international market by conducting comprehensive research and preparing for local compliance requirements.
“Proper market research, systematic financial planning and advance preparation for local compliance can help Indian companies establish operations in the US more effectively,” she said.
The interactive session was attended by prominent entrepreneurs, exporters and SGCCI office-bearers, who also raised questions about market entry, investment and regulatory requirements.
The programme concluded with experts addressing the queries of participating industrialists, as Surat’s business community explores avenues to expand its global footprint.
