Surat | Gujarat — While the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) is preparing for the maiden two-day visit of the Vice President of Zimbabwe, Honourable General (Retd.) Dr. C.G.D.N. Chiwenga ‘GCZM’ and a delegation of Cabinet Ministers and Top Secretariats,  Zimbabwean Ambassador Stella Nkomo addressed the entrepreneurs of Surat at Samhati, Sarsana, Surat.

SGCCI president  Nikhil Madrasi said that during the two days of the Zimbabwe Vice President’s visit to Surat, one-to-one business meetings will be held with entrepreneurs and leaders from various industry sectors including textiles, diamonds, agriculture, food processing, gems and jewellery, pharma, chemicals and infrastructure, so that trade and investment relations between the two countries can be given new dimensions. In addition, more opportunities will be available to Surat entrepreneurs in the international market and business development can be encouraged.

Zimbabwean Ambassador H.E. Mrs. Stella Nkomo, while addressing the entrepreneurs of Surat, said that bilateral trade between India and Zimbabwe has reached USD 130.6 million in the year 2024. This figure shows that new opportunities for economic cooperation between the two countries are growing rapidly. Zimbabwe is rich in natural resources like gold, platinum and lithium, where investment opportunities are available for investors and industrialists from all over India, including Surat.

She stated that the visit of the Vice President of Zimbabwe, Honourable General (Retd.) Dr. C.G.D.N. Chiwenga ‘GCZM’ to Surat will open new avenues for trade expansion, investment promotion and cultural cooperation. The main areas of cooperation between Zimbabwe and India include crop production, agro-processing and mechanization in the agriculture sector, joint ventures in gold, platinum and lithium mining in the mining sector, digital infrastructure, fintech and e-governance solutions and innovations in manufacturing and energy sectors, energy projects and industrial capacity development.

She added that the Zimbabwean government has taken continuous steps to improve infrastructure, power and ease of doing business, making the country more attractive to investors from other countries, including India. The Ambassador expressed hope that the long-standing diplomatic relations with India will lead the two countries to a long-term, sustainable partnership.
