GANDHINAGAR : Gujarat has begun laying the groundwork for another major investment push, with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel holding a series of one-to-one meetings with leading industrialists in Mumbai ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2027. The discussions focused on fresh investments, expansion plans, emerging industries and opportunities across sectors ranging from electric vehicles and textiles to steel, copper recycling and renewable energy.
Inviting industry leaders to participate in the upcoming summit, Patel sought to build on Gujarat’s reputation as a preferred destination for large-scale industrial investments.
Among those who met the Chief Minister was Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra, who recalled his first discussion on investing in Gujarat, held in the same room with then Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
Mahindra said he had been impressed by Modi’s “vision and foresight” and expressed satisfaction at meeting Patel to discuss the group’s future plans. Discussions covered opportunities in electric vehicles (EVs), GIFT City, investment and collaboration, with a focus on strengthening Gujarat’s position in the emerging mobility and financial ecosystem.
Swan Corporation MD Nikhil Merchant said discussions centred on expanding and modernising the company’s operations in Gujarat. Connectivity and airport infrastructure were also discussed in view of Swan Energy’s growing international business.
“Gujarat’s shipping policy is highly commendable,” Merchant said, underlining the state’s efforts to support industry-led growth and investment.
The textile sector also figured prominently in the meetings. Welspun India CEO Dipali Goenka said the group discussed opportunities for new investments and expansion, leveraging Gujarat’s established textile ecosystem and industry-friendly policies. The focus, she said, would be on boosting growth, exports and employment.
Hindalco MD Satish Pai discussed opportunities in copper recycling, e-waste management and the circular economy. Talks also covered the proposed inauguration of Hindalco’s copper recycling plant in December, along with potential investments and sustainable industrial practices aimed at strengthening Gujarat’s position in the copper sector.
One of the biggest investment plans came from AMNS India CEO Amit Harlalka, who outlined the company’s ambitious Gujarat expansion. The company is working towards completing an Rs.80,000 crore investment by June, while planning another Rs.10,000 crore investment at Hazira, primarily in renewable energy and battery storage.
Harlalka also shared AMNS India’s vision of developing a 25-million-tonne steel plant in Gujarat, which the company described as the world’s largest.
