Surat : The country’s largest man-made fibre (MMF) textile industry in Surat is set to make history with the launch of the revolutionary Velvet Airjet Machinery at the Surat International Textile Expo 2025 (SITEX). Organized by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), the three-day exhibition will commence on January 10 at the Surat International Exhibition and Convention Centre (SIECC), Sarsana.

This cutting-edge machinery, showcased for the first time in India, promises to elevate Surat’s textile industry to new heights, significantly reducing costs and enhancing fabric quality.

Game-Changing Technology

According to SGCCI President Vijay Mewawala, Velvet Airjet Machinery will transform velvet production in India. Until now, velvet with a quality number of 5000 was produced domestically, while higher-quality velvet (11000 quality number) had to be imported from Korea. The Velvet Airjet Machinery, capable of operating at 600 RPM (compared to the 80 RPM of traditional shuttle looms), will now enable high-quality velvet production locally.

Korean velvet, used extensively for crafting luxury lehengas priced between ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000, costs ₹1,500 to ₹2,000 per meter. With this new technology, the production cost will drop significantly, making the fabric available at just ₹200 per meter. This price reduction is expected to benefit both manufacturers and consumers, making high-quality velvet more accessible.

Adding to its appeal, the machinery is 100% electronic, WiFi-enabled, and can be operated via mobile devices. It is also a zero-defect machine, ensuring impeccable fabric quality.

Expanding Technological Innovations

SITEX 2025 will also showcase a range of innovative machinery, underscoring Surat’s technological advancement in textiles:

32-Head Digital Printing Machinery:

This state-of-the-art machinery will be exhibited for the first time in Surat. Currently available only in Banaras, the 32-head machine supports advanced embroidery and viscose jacquard production. Its introduction is expected to boost garment productivity and quality in Surat.

Make in India Machines includes Waterjet Machines, High-Speed Rapier Machines,

Shuttle Looms with Seven Shuttle 4×4 Configurations.

These indigenous machines are designed to create value-added fabrics like pure and semi-silk cloth incorporating gold and silver wire. They are energy-efficient, reducing production costs while offering local manufacturers robust service support.

This year marks the 11th edition of SITEX, an event renowned for propelling Surat’s textile industry into global markets. With the unveiling of new machinery, the event aims to modernize the industry, attract investments, and encourage innovation.

“The SITEX exhibition is a platform to give a new direction and momentum to Surat’s growing textile industry,” said SGCCI President Vijay Mewawala.
