AHMEDABAD,GUJARAT: A local trader, Gajendrasinh Jadeja, committed suicide on Wednesday after facing relentless harassment from loan sharks charging exorbitant interest rates.  Authorities believe the financial pressure became unbearable, highlighting the dangers of unregulated lenders.

Jadeja’s ordeal began in 2001 with a seemingly manageable loan of Rs.10,000. However, over the years, the debt spiraled out of control despite his significant repayments. Officials revealed that Jadeja had even resorted to selling his land to repay a staggering Rs.80,000.  Despite these efforts, the loan sharks reportedly continued their demands, with their latest harassment seeking an additional Rs.5 lakh.

Driven to despair by the relentless pressure, Jadeja tragically took his own life.  “This incident reflects the extreme pressures faced by individuals who fall prey to unregulated money lenders,” a police official stated.

The Odhav Police have registered a complaint against three individuals suspected of predatory lending practices.  Two of the accused have been arrested, while the third is reportedly hospitalized. The investigation remains ongoing.
