Surat : Another bout of heavy rain has begun in the state, particularly in central and southern Gujarat, since Monday.  In addition, the meteorological authority predicts severe rains in the state during the next seven days. Weather experts predict strong to extremely heavy rainfall in locations such as Central and South Gujarat as a result of the simultaneous activation of four systems.

The NDRF crew safely rescued approximately 63 girls and 224 boys from Panchol Ashramshala after the tiny creeks of Dolvan Taluka and the Olan River flooded the Panchol Ashram School due to severe rains that have been spreading havoc in Tapi district since this morning on Tuesday.

According to the authorities, significant rainfall has caused water levels in 10 rivers and 132 reservoirs to rise above the danger limit. While 206 reservoirs in the state have filled 79% of their total capacity. Heavy rains in Vadodara have forced over 20,000 residents to relocate to safer areas in recent days. The government stated that Rs 1.76 crore was paid as relief to 64,360 flood victims in Vadodara district. While in rural areas, 84,970 persons received Rs.56 lakh help.

The Meteorological Department has issued red alerts for Surat and Bharuch districts, respectively. Orange alerts have been issued in Botad, Bhavnagar, Anand, Vadodara, Narmada, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra Nagar. Additionally, yellow alerts have been issued in Rajkot, Amreli, Surendranagar, Ahmedabad, Kheda, Panchmahal, and Chota Udepur.

The meteorological service has forecasted weather and rainfall in Gujarat beginning in early September and lasting throughout the month. Aside from that, the temperature in Gujarat swings during the monsoon. In September 2023, there was less rainfall than usual and warmer temperatures. This year, the Meteorological Department forecasts a 109% chance of rain in September. That means, in 2024, there will be more rainfall than usual in September. As a result, the maximum temperature is projected to be three degrees Celsius lower than the previous year.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department’s September projection, there will be above-average rainfall in several portions of Gujarat. There is also a risk of very heavy rains in the areas of South Gujarat. It is worth noting that, due to this year’s El Nino, there is a probability of above-average rainfall in September. Aside from that, there is a probability of rain in Gujarat in October because the monsoon may extend longer this year.

Importantly, mild to very heavy rains are expected in several regions of Gujarat state from September 3 to 10. There is also a chance of very severe rain throughout these seven days, particularly in the areas of South Gujarat. While portions of East Central Gujarat may see more than just heavy rains. South Gujarat’s rivers may flood once more. The districts of Saurashtra-Kutch and North Gujarat may receive rain as needed.  The districts of Saurashtra-Kutch and North Gujarat may expect light to heavy rain in the first week of September. While there is a possibility of heavy rain in Central Gujarat.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in Saurashtra-Kutch in September 2024 is expected to be higher than normal. While the maximum temperature is expected to remain below normal, the areas of Central Gujarat and South Gujarat may experience very heavy rains.

During the month of September, Gujarat often experiences cloudy weather, with a high temperature of around 32 degrees Celsius and a low temperature of around 24 degrees Celsius. However, in majority of Gujarat’s districts, the maximum temperature is expected to be close to normal this year.
