Surat : A pall of gloom descended upon the Salabatpura area of Surat today after a tragic incident at Jai Industry’s embroidery factory. A 40-year-old worker, Lalan Mishra, was killed on the spot when a compressor machine fell on him while loading goods. Another worker, 35-year-old Paras Mali, sustained critical injuries and is currently battling for his life at the SMIMER hospital.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when Mishra and Mali were loading goods onto a tempo on the ground floor. According to Superintendent of Police Chirag Patel, the air compressor machine, located on the third floor, was being lowered for maintenance when its wire snapped on the second floor, causing it to plummet onto the unsuspecting workers below.

“The air compressor machine used in the machine was taken down for maintenance,” explained Patel. “While reaching the second floor, the wire broke and the machine fell on two youths. In which Lalan has died and another Paras has suffered head injuries.”

Mishra, who had only been married three months ago, succumbed to his injuries at the scene, leaving his family and community in shock. Mali, who was rushed to the hospital with critical head injuries, is undergoing treatment, and his condition remains critical.

Adding to the tragedy is the revelation that the loading lift used to transport goods from the upper floors was installed illegally. “In this incident, it has come to light that the lift was installed illegally,” said Patel. “However, further action will be taken after FSL investigation.”

The entire incident was captured on CCTV, which will be crucial in the ongoing investigation. Police are currently examining the scene and questioning factory officials to determine the exact cause of the accident and identify any potential violations of safety protocols.
