Surat : The Surat police made significant strides in their “No Drugs in Surat City” campaign by arresting seven drug peddlers from different areas in the city, including a man and a woman from Mumbai. The operation, conducted on Monday, led to the seizure of approximately 354.650 grams of Mephedrone, valued at Rs 37 lakh. Five cases under the NDPS Act have been registered, and investigations are ongoing.

Sources revealed that the Surat crime branch received a tip-off about a woman and her accomplice traveling from Mumbai to Surat with the contraband. Acting on this information, the police organized a watch at the Surat railway station. Rabiyabi Abdul Razak Shaikh, 43, a resident of Govandi in Mumbai, and Safique Pathan, 40, a resident of Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, were apprehended after arriving on the Suryanagri Superfast Express train from Bandra to Surat on Sunday. The police seized about 252 grams of Mephedrone, valued at Rs 25 lakh, hidden in their bag. Both individuals have been charged under the NDPS Act.

Following these arrests, the Surat Crime Branch and city police launched a joint operation on Monday, resulting in the capture of five more MD Drugs peddlers from various parts of Surat. Sarfaraz alias Salman Yakub Patel, 43, a resident of Ramnagar, was nabbed with 28.790 grams of Mephedrone worth Rs 2.87 lakh. Faisal Shaikh and Yasin Bablu Mulla, residents of Tadwadi in Rander, were caught with 31.55 grams of Mephedrone valued at Rs 3.15 lakh.

In another raid, police targeted the residence of Mohsin Shaikh in Rudarpura, Kumbharwad. Attempting to escape, Mohsin jumped from the fifth floor, landing on the fourth floor and fracturing his leg. He was promptly taken to the New Civil Hospital for treatment. Police found 14 grams of Mephedrone worth Rs 1.44 lakh in his possession.

Additionally, the Surat crime branch arrested Saiyed Asif alias Babu, 40, from Rander with 27.50 grams of Mephedrone worth Rs 2.75 lakh.

Bhavesh Rojiya, ACP of Surat Crime Branch, stated, “The Surat police and the Surat crime branch have arrested seven drug peddlers, including a woman from Mumbai and a man from Uttar Pradesh, with MD drug worth Rs 37 lakh. The arrests have been made under the ‘No Drugs in Surat City’ campaign. We are thoroughly interrogating the accused regarding the source of the MD drugs and the potential buyers to whom they supplied in Surat.”
