DAMAN: An interstate ganja supply network operating across Daman and Gujarat has come under the scanner after Daman Police seized 12.607 kg of cannabis and arrested two alleged key operatives in a two-phase investigation.
The operation was launched by the Coastal Police Station, Moti Daman, following intelligence inputs about narcotics movement in the region. Police registered FIR No. 13/2026 and invoked provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, along with Section 29 relating to criminal conspiracy.
During patrolling on October 1, police intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number DD-03-Q-6502 near Patelara, Moti Daman. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 2.597 kg of ganja from its boot. Police arrested Ankit Rajkumar Gupta in connection with the seizure.
Investigators then intensified questioning to trace the source of the contraband. The probe allegedly led police to Sourabh Rai Singh, described as the main supplier, who was arrested on October 2.
Based on information disclosed during the investigation, police conducted a targeted raid at Vapi in Gujarat. The operation resulted in the recovery of another 10.010 kg of ganja allegedly concealed at a stash location.
With both recoveries, the total quantity seized in the operation has reached 12.607 kg.
Police said the investigation is now focused on identifying the wider network, including the alleged backward and forward linkages of the supply chain.
“Daman Police maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy against narcotics. Our investigation is digging deep into the backward and forward linkages of this network to root out all associated elements,” police said.
The police also appealed to citizens to share information about drug-related activities, assuring that information can be provided anonymously.
Officials said further investigation is underway to identify other persons allegedly connected with the interstate narcotics network.
