Schoolboys kill a construction worker in Chennai

Chennai : Seven teenagers have been arrested for murder of man. The accused beat up the man who breathed his last in the hospital on Thursday.
The teenagers accompanied with two older youths had parked their bikes across a side street in Silva Nagar, Velachery, and were dancing on the road on Wednesday evening. Police said a construction worker from Jharkhand, Ramesh Mandal, 29, who was returning with groceries for his dinner, was passing them when the leg of one of the dancers accidently hit him.
Mandal objected and hit the dancers with a drumstick he was carrying. Enraged with the act, the accused attacked Mandal and three of his co-workers. Mandal and his friends were chased away and Mandal was hit with the rod on his head, leaving him profusely bleeding in the middle of the road.
Mandal was rushed to the nearby private hospital from where he was shifted to Government Royapettah hospital for treatment for severe head injuries. The Velachery police registered a case and nabbed all nine including Gokulkrishnan, 21, of Taramani and Hariharan, 18, of Kallukuttai.
Mandal died of critical head injuries on Thursday morning. The accused have been sent to government home for juveniles and other two have been remanded in police custody.
