A new leak suggests that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 could feature a smaller front camera cutout, focusing on refinement rather than major design changes. According to tipster Ice Universe, the punch hole on the cover display may shrink to 2.5mm, compared to 3.7mm on the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

  • What is still unknown

While a 1.2mm reduction sounds small, it makes a noticeable difference in daily use. Foldable phones have narrow cover screens, so even small elements like the camera cutout take up more visible space. A smaller punch hole means a cleaner viewing experience.

The leak was reported by GSMArena, though Samsung has not confirmed anything yet. The reduction is believed to come from new display or camera integration technology.

What changes with a smaller cutout

On the Fold 7, the 3.7mm cutout is clearly visible. With a 2.5mm cutout, the Fold 8 will look less intrusive during video watching and reading. However, there is no confirmation about upgrades to the front camera, which is currently a 10MP sensor.

There are also rumors of a 50MP ultrawide rear camera, but that is separate from the front camera changes.

Conflicting leaks

Earlier CAD renders from NotebookCheck suggested no change in the punch hole size. Since CAD designs are early-stage, final hardware may differ. The latest leak is more recent but still unconfirmed.

Focus on internal improvements

At CES 2026, Samsung Display showcased a new foldable screen with reduced or no visible crease. This could improve both visual quality and durability.

The Fold 8 is also rumored to include a 5000mAh battery with faster charging, addressing a major concern for foldable users.

Thickness and build

Some reports suggest slightly thicker dimensions, but real-world measurements of Fold 7 already match these numbers. So, the Fold 8 may not actually feel thicker.

What is still unknown

It is unclear if the crease-free display will be included. Front camera upgrades and S Pen support are also not confirmed.

Samsung is expected to launch the Fold 8 around July 2026. Overall, the device appears to focus on small but meaningful improvements rather than a complete redesign.
