RAJKOT,GUJARAT : Rajkot game zone fire incident has claimed the lives of 30 individuals. Investigators have so far recovered 27 bodies, while the remains of three other victims have been found in the form of scattered body parts amidst the debris. The shocking discovery was made as rescue teams meticulously sifted through the site’s wreckage, uncovering bones and other human remains.

These remains have been sent for DNA testing to facilitate accurate identification. Given the condition of the body parts, they will need to be examined multiple times to ensure precise matching. This process involves not just determining the DNA of each piece, but also assembling the pieces to reconstruct individual bodies.

DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, is essential in this identification process. It is the molecule that carries genetic information in our cells. DNA testing provides highly accurate information about an individual’s genetic makeup, heritage, and familial relationships. Each person’s DNA is unique, except for identical twins, making it an invaluable tool in forensic science.

In the human body, every cell except red blood cells contains DNA. This genetic material is structured in a double helix, resembling a twisted ladder. If all the DNA in a single human body were straightened, it would stretch far enough to reach the sun and back to Earth 300 times.

Identifying victims through DNA is crucial when traditional methods fail, especially in cases where bodies are disfigured beyond recognition. DNA testing involves comparing samples from the deceased with those from their relatives to establish a genetic match. This method is often employed in murder investigations, accidents, and disasters where victims’ bodies cannot be identified visually.

Each child’s DNA contains elements inherited from their parents, though it is not an identical copy. Certain segments may match, enabling scientists to confirm familial relationships. This testing is not only used for determining paternity or familial ties but also plays a critical role in criminal investigations and disaster victim identification.
