AHMEDABAD,GUJARAT : In a significant crackdown, Gujarat Police have busted a mass marriage racket and arrested the organizer, Prakash Parmar, who allegedly cheated 113 couples out of ₹24 lakh. Parmar was apprehended near the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in Vastral.

The Hindu Jan Vikas Seva Sangh Trust, led by Parmar, had been organizing caste-based mass marriage programs. They promised to marry 113 couples and provide them with business facilities as part of the package. Each couple was charged ₹22,000 for registration, a sum intended to cover the marriage ceremony and the promised post-marriage business support.

However, the couples were left disappointed and frustrated when the promised business facilities never materialized after the event. The realization that they had been duped led the affected families to file a complaint at the Amraiwadi police station.

“Each couple was charged ₹22,000 for registration. However, after the event, the promised business facilities were not provided to the couples, leading to widespread frustration and anger among the victims,” said a police spokesperson.

Prakash Parmar had also set up an office in front of Bharti Nagar Amraiwadi Post Office to lend credibility to the event and gain the trust of the couples and their families. The facade of a legitimate operation fell apart as complaints began to surface, prompting a police investigation.

The police acted swiftly upon receiving the complaints and arrested Parmar. “We have arrested the organizer, Prakash Parmar, near AMC in Vastral. Further investigation into the case is underway,” the spokesperson added.

This incident has highlighted the vulnerabilities of individuals seeking marital support through such mass marriage events, which often promise more than they can deliver. The police are now looking into the operations of the Hindu Jan Vikas Seva Sangh Trust to identify any further instances of fraud and to gather more evidence against Parmar and any accomplices.

The authorities are also urging other potential victims to come forward with their complaints to help build a stronger case against the fraudulent activities. The investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the scam and to ensure that justice is served for all the affected couples.
