Surat, Gujarat : Speculation is mounting in Gujarat’s political circles following Surat (West) MLA Purnesh Modi’s meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda in New Delhi on Friday. The visit comes just ahead of the crucial Gujarat BJP executive meeting scheduled for July 4 and 5.

Gujarat’s political landscape is abuzz with speculation after Surat (West) MLA Purnesh Modi’s significant meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda in New Delhi. This high-profile visit precedes the Gujarat BJP executive meeting, set to take place over two days on July 4 and 5.

Purnesh Modi, who gained national attention for filing a court complaint against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his controversial ‘Modi Surname’ remark, is believed to be a key figure in the potential reshuffling within the Gujarat BJP. The timing of his visit has fueled discussions about a possible appointment of a new Gujarat BJP president or the proposal for an acting president during the upcoming executive meeting.

The current Gujarat BJP chief, CR Paatil, who has recently been appointed as the Union Jal Shakti Minister, is expected to resign from his state party position. However, traditionally, the BJP does not announce the state president’s name during state executive meetings. Despite this, Modi’s interaction with senior BJP leaders is being seen as a significant indicator of forthcoming changes.

In addition to his role as the MLA for Surat (West), Purnesh Modi is the in-charge of the union territories of Diu-Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Sources suggest that a state executive meeting might be organized in Diu-Daman on July 1, with the presence of Union Minister Nithyananda. This meeting could be part of the broader strategic planning ahead of the executive meeting in Gujarat.

Known for his organizational skills, Purnesh Modi is speculated to be in line for an important role within the national BJP organization, especially with anticipated major changes on the horizon. Despite the swirling rumors, Modi has downplayed the significance of his visit, stating that it was merely a courtesy meeting with Amit Shah and JP Nadda.

“I met with Amit Shah and JP Nadda as a matter of courtesy,” Modi said, dismissing the political speculations. “There is nothing more to it than that.”
