Surat : The Surat railway police have arrested an accused in connection with the  chilling attempt at train sabotage incident reported on the railway tracks at Surat on Janauary 9.

Police said that Ramji Devshi Koradia, 42, and his unidentified accomplice are scrap collectors. The accused placed an iron rod on the tracks near the Surat-Utran railway line, just before the scheduled arrival of the Saurashtra Janta Express.

The accused, Ramji Devshi Kordia, hails from Hudli village in Amreli district and currently lives on the footpath near Katargam Kasa Nagar pay-and-use toilet. He was accompanied by another individual, whose identity remains unknown. Both men are believed to earn a living by selling scrap and plastic.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Kordia and his partner had acquired the iron pipe from Katargam earlier in the day. Intending to have it cut into smaller pieces for easier sale, they approached a local welding shop. However, the shopkeeper refused their request, citing safety concerns. Undeterred, the duo decided to take matters into their own hands, leading them to the reckless attempt at placing the pipe on the tracks.

“We checked the CCTV footage in the area and found two men carrying a huge iron road and they were going towards the railway track. We were able to identify Koradia, while other accused is still at large” said a police officer.
