Ahmedabad: Passenger traffic at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) has increased dramatically, with a 35% jump in the number of passengers who used the airport between October 2022 and September 2023 compared to the same period in FY 2022-2023.

From October 2022 through September 2023, SVPIA served nearly 5 million passengers, a 35% increase over the previous year’s total of 3.9 million. There were a total of 28,969 domestic and 5,193 foreign arrivals and departures at the airport during last week.

While the most popular domestic destinations for SVPIA were Delhi, Mumbai, Bhopal, Kolkata, and Varanasi, the most popular foreign destinations were London (Gatwick), Doha, and Singapore. In addition, foreign routes served by SVPIA expanded significantly, with Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City, Dubai, London, and Doha among the fastest-growing cities served.

In order to provide better services and amenities for foreign travellers, Ahmedabad Airport has recently opened a new immigration hall at the international terminal – T2. The new arrivals hall is equipped with 24 immigration checkpoints. Additional baggage belts and pickup/dropoff areas have been added to the Domestic Terminal – T1 Arrival area, and there are now more check-in counters in departure, a faster entry lane for Digi Yatra users, a larger Security check area and new boarding gates for domestic flights.

Cargo volume at SVPIA’s privately run cargo terminals has increased by a stunning 14% over the previous year, and this trend is expected to continue until at least August 2023. SVPIA is also planning to increase capacity at the international goods Terminal – T3 by installing a big X-ray equipment to facilitate the acceptance of palletized goods. T3 now has a customs-approved courier partner for international shipments to several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. In fact, SVPIA is building Ahmedabad’s first and only Integrated Cargo Terminal (ICT), which will have state-of-the-art facilities for managing goods.

SVPIA’s growing passenger and cargo numbers are further evidence of the airport’s reliability and the confidence of its customers and commercial partners. The safety and security of its passengers is of the utmost importance to SVPIA, and the airport’s employees are dedicated to maintaining those values at all times.
