Gandhinagar | Gujarat — Under the education-oriented scheme of the Gujarat Government ‘Namo Lakshmi Yojana’, an assistance of Rs. 1,250 crore to approximately 12 lakh girl students studying in secondary and higher secondary education in the year 2025-26, the Education Department has said.

The ‘Namo Lakshmi Yojana’ was launched with the aim of ensuring that the girls of the state do not have to drop out of education due to financial constraints after completing primary education and that more and more girls complete their complete school education. Under this scheme, girl students studying in secondary and higher secondary in schools recognized by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB), Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) of the state are eligible for this assistance.

Even if the students are getting the benefit of scholarship under any other government scheme, the benefit of this scheme is available as an additional benefit. Under the Namo Lakshmi Yojana, a total of Rs. 50 thousand is provided to the students studying in standard 09 to 12 during these four years.

The main purpose of this scheme is to further strengthen the nutrition and health of adolescent girls along with secondary and higher secondary education. As a result, the state government has come to the notice of the need to strengthen the nutrition and health of adolescent girls. As a result, the ‘Namo Lakshmi Yojana’ has been started to provide financial assistance to adolescent girls along with education and to empower them.

The benefit of this scheme is that all the girls studying in standard 9 who have completed their studies from standard 1 to 8 in a government or aided primary school or under RTE of the state and have taken admission in standard 9 or have completed their studies in standard 8 in a private primary school and whose annual family income is Rs. 6 lakh or less can take the benefit of the ‘Namo Lakshmi Yojana’.

It is worth mentioning here that under this scheme, an estimated 12 lakh students will be eligible for assistance of up to Rs. 50,000/- in the year 2025-26 after completing their studies from standard 9 to 12. Under which a total of Rs. 20,000/- will be paid for standard 9 and 10 together. Out of this assistance, Rs. 500/- per month for 10 months during the academic year in standard 9 and 10, a total of Rs. 10,000/- will be paid for both the years. While the remaining Rs. 10,000/- will be available after passing the board examination of standard 10.

A total of Rs. 30,000/- will be paid for standard 11 and 12. Out of this assistance, Rs. 750/- per month for 10 months during the academic year in standard 11 and 12, a total of Rs. 7,500/- will be paid for both the years. While the remaining Rs. 15,000/- will be available after passing the standard 12 board examination.
