SURAT, GUJARAT : A 24-year-old youth was killed in a brawl over a bench, leading to the arrest of three individuals in the Katargam area in Surat. The altercation, which escalated violently, ended in the death of Shyamalal Nathulal Chandravanshithakur, a laborer living near Katargam Lalita Chowkdi.

The incident occurred around 9 PM when Shyamalal approached a bench occupied by Sohan Singh Marwada, a rickshaw driver. According to witnesses and CCTV footage, Shyamalal asked Sohan Singh to vacate the bench so he could sit. When Sohan Singh refused, a heated argument ensued. In a fit of rage, Shyamalal struck Sohan Singh on the head with a pipe, causing him to lose consciousness momentarily.

Regaining his senses, Sohan Singh, with the help of two accomplices, Rahul Sapkal and Mehul Unagar, retaliated violently. The trio brutally kicked and punched Shyamalal, inflicting severe injuries. Shyamalal was subsequently taken to SMiMER hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

The Katargam police were promptly informed of the incident and arrived at the scene. Using the CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, they quickly identified and arrested the three suspects. The police investigation revealed that the altercation was a result of a dispute over sitting on the bench. The accused confessed to their involvement during police questioning.

Residents of the area were shocked by the senseless violence. The altercation, which began over something as trivial as a bench, escalated to a deadly confrontation. The entire incident was captured on CCTV, providing clear evidence of the brutality involved.

Sohan Singh Marwada, Rahul Sapkal, and Mehul Unagar, all rickshaw drivers, now face serious charges for their roles in the fatal beating. The police have taken swift action to ensure justice for the victim and to deter such violent acts in the community.
