AHMEDABAD,GUJARAT : In a bid to encourage voter turnout and facilitate residents’ participation in the democratic process, Rapido, a popular commute app, has announced the launch of its “SawaariZimmedariKi” initiative in collaboration with the Chief Electoral Office of Gujarat. The initiative aims to provide free bike taxi rides to voters across major cities in Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Surat, and Anand, on May 7th, 2024, the day of the Lok Sabha elections.

According to a press release by Rapido, voters can avail themselves of free rides on the Rapido app by using the code ‘VOTENOW’ on election day. This initiative seeks to ensure that voters have convenient transportation options to and from their polling stations, thereby facilitating their participation in the electoral process. Rapido’s nationwide campaign involves deploying over 10 lakh captains across more than 100 cities to provide free rides on election day, reflecting its commitment to promoting civic engagement.

Pavan Guntupalli, Co-founder of Rapido, emphasized the importance of enabling every voter in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Surat, and Anand to exercise their democratic right during the Indian General Election 2024. He stated, “We are undertaking this initiative to ensure that every voter can fulfill their civic duty by casting their votes.”

P Bharathi, Chief Electoral Officer of Gujarat, lauded the partnership between Rapido and the Chief Electoral Office, highlighting their shared commitment to fostering a more inclusive and vibrant democracy. The collaboration between Rapido and the electoral authorities underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in promoting civic engagement and voter participation.

The “SawaariZimmedariKi” initiative by Rapido is expected to provide a convenient and accessible transportation option for voters on election day, particularly for those who may face challenges in reaching their polling stations. By offering free bike taxi rides, Rapido aims to contribute towards enhancing voter turnout and promoting a culture of active citizenship in Gujarat.
