Rajkot : Senior Congress leader Paresh Dhanani, gearing up for a formidable electoral battle against BJP heavyweight Parshottam Rupala in the Rajkot Lok Sabha constituency, kicked off his campaign with a visit to the revered Khodaldham Temple on Tuesday. Accompanied by Congress candidate Jenny Thummar from the Amreli Lok Sabha seat, Dhanani engaged in a closed-door meeting with Naresh Patel, trustee of Khodaldham Temple, signaling the commencement of his electioneering efforts.

The atmosphere at Khodaldham Temple was charged with anticipation as Dhanani and Thummar received a warm welcome from Naresh Patel, who adorned them with the sacred Mataji sash. Expressing reverence, the candidates offered prayers and symbolic offerings to the deity, marking the auspicious beginning of their electoral journey.

Amidst the spiritual ambiance of the temple, Dhanani sounded the conch shell, a traditional symbol of auspiciousness and victory, signifying his resolve to uphold the values and aspirations of the electorate. Lalit Vasoya, Congress candidate from Porbandar, also joined the gathering, underscoring the broad-based support for the Congress party’s electoral endeavors.

Reflecting on the political landscape, Dhanani denounced the BJP’s divisive tactics, accusing the ruling party of orchestrating caste-based polarization for political gain. However, he expressed optimism in the face of such challenges, highlighting the warm reception he received from members of the Kshatriya community during his forthcoming nomination filing in Rajkot.

“As BJP demonstrates its cunning tactics and mastery in division, it is imperative for us to stand united against such divisive forces. The people of the Kshatriya community have welcomed our candidacy, signaling a collective desire for change and inclusivity,” remarked Dhanani, underscoring the importance of grassroots mobilization and solidarity in countering the BJP’s electoral strategies.

Meanwhile, amidst the burgeoning campaign activities, Tuesday witnessed a flurry of nomination filings, with approximately 23 candidates from both the ruling BJP and opposition Congress submitting their candidatures for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat. This flurry of nominations sets the stage for a fiercely contested electoral battle, as political contenders vie for supremacy in Gujarat’s electoral landscape.
