DamanUmesh Patel, the Independent Member of Parliament from the union territory of Daman and Diu, is reportedly in the process of negotiating a confidential deal with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership to ensure the immediate removal of Praful Patel, the current Administrator of Dadra and Nagar Haveli (DNH), Daman and Diu. This development has sparked significant political intrigue. Umesh Patel has reportedly pledged his complete support to the BJP in the Union Territory, provided that Praful Patel is replaced. This has sparked widespread speculation.

During the question hour in the Parliament last week, Umesh Patel made an impassioned appeal to the Lok Sabha Speaker, advocating for the urgent removal of Praful Patel and the appointment of a competent IAS officer as his successor. This robust representation emphasised the increasing dissatisfaction with Praful Patel’s extended tenure and alleged malpractices.

Umesh Patel declared, “I am committed to addressing a critical matter.” “Praful Patel, the current Administrator of Daman, Diu, and DNH, has been in office for the past eight years. The Governor and the President of India are appointed for a period of five years, while the tenure of an Administrator is typically three years. The policy of our government mandates that officials be transferred within a specified time frame. Praful Patel’s continued tenure in this role for eight years is unjust.

Patel also accused Praful Patel of engaging in pervasive corruption, which resulted in hardships for the citizens of the Union Territory. “Patel maintains the position despite the conclusion of his tenure.” He further stated, “I respectfully implore the Government of India to remove Praful Patel and replace him with a senior IAS officer who is not corrupt, in order to ensure the welfare of the Union Territory’s populace.”

The demand for Praful Patel’s removal has gained momentum, echoing the grievances of numerous residents who have long expressed apprehensions regarding administrative corruption and inefficiency. The pressing necessity for governance reforms in the region has been underscored by Umesh Patel’s public denunciation of Praful Patel and his call for a more transparent and accountable administration.
