HDFC bank employees caught by CBI accepting bribe of Rs 2 lakh for sanction of Rs 99 lakh loan in Pune

Surat : Two employees of HDFC Bank’s Baramati branch in Pune, Maharashtra, have been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs. 2.70 lakh from the complainant prior to the sanction and disbursement of a loan in the amount of Rs. 99 lakh.

On July 30, 2020, the CBI filed a case against Nitin Nikam, the former Relationship Manager of HDFC Bank’s Baramati branch, and Dhaiygude, the former Rural Sales Executive of HDFC Bank’s Jalochi branch.

The CBI had set up a sting operation, and the executive, Dhaiygude, was caught in the act of accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from the complainant in Pune.

The Special Judge in CBI cases in Pune imposed a mandatory minimum sentence of three years of incarceration on both defendants.

In addition, the court levied fines of 60,000 each against Nikam, the former Relationship Manager of the HDFC Bank’s Baramati branch, and Dhaiygude, the former Rural Sales Executive of HDFC Bank’s Jalochi branch.

Both suspects were taken into custody, and police later found evidence of their guilt after searching their residences. After conducting their own investigation, the CBI formally charged both suspects on December 18, 2020 in front of the Special Judge for CBI cases in Pune. The trial court reached a verdict of guilt for both defendants.
