Surat (Gujarat) [India]: Hardik Patel, working president of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has put to rest the speculations of his joining the BJP saying he has no such plans but he is upset with the state party leadership.
Patel was in the Tapi district, some 40 kilometers away from Surat, to attend the Tapi Yuva Swabhiman Sammelan organised by the Tapi district Congress on Monday.
Talking with reporters at the venue, Patel said, “I praised Joe Biden when he won the US Presidential elections because his Vice-President Kamala Harris has roots in India. Does this mean I will join Biden’s party?”
Hardik Patel, a firebrand Saurashtrian Patel leader who shot to fame from the Patidar Anamat Andolan in Gujarat, is reportedly unhappy with the State Congress leadership on various political issues. Recently, he lauded BJP for revoking article 370 and the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
He (Patel) has been seen many times wearing saffron ‘gamcha’ during his public appearance.
“We will have to praise our rivals when they have good quality. If they make a bold decision, we must also have to follow them otherwise you are wasting your time. Many young people want to work for the party, but they are not getting the opportunity” said Patel.
Patel clarified that he is not upset with Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, but with the state leadership.
