Gujarat : Workers Protest Shuts Lubi Industries Plant in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad | Gujarat — Tensions erupted at Lubi Industries LLP in Ahmedabad on Wednesday after more than 500 employees launched a sudden strike over salary hikes and overtime disputes, briefly bringing operations at the manufacturing facility to a standstill.

The protest, which unfolded at the company’s unit in the Saijpur Bogha–Naroda Road industrial belt near Memco, saw workers gather inside the premises and shut the factory doors in a dramatic show of anger. For hours, the facility remained locked as employees demanded immediate action on long-pending wage concerns.

Sources said the agitation stemmed from frustration over the management’s delay in implementing promised salary revisions and overtime payments. Workers alleged that despite repeated representations, no concrete decision had been taken.

“Employees have been waiting for a salary hike as per government rules, but the issue has been ignored for months,” said a worker involved in the protest. “We had no choice but to take this step.”

Factory Operations Halted

The strike led to a complete halt in operations, with not a single employee leaving the premises during the protest. The situation created panic within the industrial area as the agitation escalated quickly.

Workers submitted eight key demands to the company’s production manager and general manager, focusing mainly on wage revisions, overtime compensation and improved working conditions.

“The salary hike issue had been communicated earlier, but there has been no decision so far. This created anger among the workforce,” another employee said.

Talks Bring Temporary Relief

After hours of tense negotiations, the management stepped in and assured employees that their demands would be reviewed and a “proper decision” would be taken soon. Following this assurance, workers agreed to call off the strike and resume duties.

Company officials received the written list of demands and promised to consider the issues seriously. The assurance helped ease tensions and allowed operations to restart.
