Gandhinagar | Gujarat — Delivering a strong message to Gujarat’s top administrative machinery, Bhupendra Patel on Wednesday directed collectors and senior revenue officers to adopt a strict “zero-tolerance” approach to governance, warning that even a few mistakes can damage the credibility of an entire department.

The Chief Minister was addressing officers during the inauguration of a three-day Chintan Shibir of the Revenue Department at Adalaj, where he stressed the need for faster, people-centric service delivery and accountability at every level of administration.
“The Revenue Department is a place where one concern leaves and another arrives. That is why working with zero tolerance is essential,” Patel said, underlining the department’s central role in citizens’ day-to-day interactions with the government.
‘We Know the Effort It Takes to Become an IAS’
While praising the dedication of officers, the Chief Minister reminded them of their responsibility toward public trust. “We know how much hard work and struggle it takes to become an IAS officer. After reaching this position, the name of the entire department should not be tarnished due to the mistake of one or two people,” he said.
He encouraged officers to work fearlessly and assured them that they could approach him directly if they faced personal or professional difficulties. The message, officials said, was aimed at boosting morale while reinforcing accountability.
Focus on Faster Grievance Redressal
Referring to the state government’s ‘Welcome’ online grievance redressal programme, Patel urged collectors to resolve issues proactively rather than waiting for complaints to escalate to the highest level.
“Your questions reach me through the Welcome programme. How much better it would be if the work is completed beforehand rather than during the Welcome itself,” he remarked. He also advised collectors to review their work every 15 days and ensure timely resolution of public grievances.
The Chief Minister highlighted the authority and influence of district collectors, calling them key pillars of governance. “Collectors hold significant power. If this power is used with a smile to resolve citizens’ issues, the system will become stronger,” he said.
Message on Teamwork and Humility
In a candid moment, Patel urged officers to shed ego and adopt a collaborative mindset. “Give up the idea that you alone run the system. Everyone has a contribution in making governance effective,” he said.
He emphasised the importance of creating an environment where citizens feel comfortable approaching government offices. “No applicant should feel hesitant or intimidated when entering an office,” he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister and senior Revenue Department officials were present at the event, which is expected to focus on policy reforms, service delivery improvements and strengthening public trust in governance.
