Gujarat Takes Center Stage at Republic Day Parade with Breathtaking “Dhordo” Tableau

Ahmedabad : The spirit of Gujarat’s vibrant border tourism blazed across Kartavya Path today as the state’s tableau rolled down during the full dress rehearsal for the Republic Day Parade. Titled “Dhordo: Global Identity of Gujarat’s Border Tourism,” the tableau offered a captivating glimpse into the unique charm of the Kutch desert village, now a UNESCO-recognized “Best Tourism Village.”

As the tableau glided past, a rotating globe at the forefront displayed Gujarat’s strategic location, setting the stage for the immersive journey. The iconic “Bhunga” houses of Dhordo, built in traditional circular style, stood tall, their intricate mud-work and colorful embellishments capturing the essence of the region. Local artisans, their hands weaving magic with textiles and Rogan art, brought alive the village’s rich craft heritage.

The tableau pulsated with the energy of the “Rann Utsav,” the annual desert festival. A vibrant tent city, reminiscent of the festival’s nomadic charm, housed musicians and dancers performing Garba, the joyous folk dance recently awarded UNESCO’s “Intangible Cultural Heritage” status. The breathtaking spectacle was a celebration of resilience and cultural pride, showcasing Dhordo’s transformation from a remote village to a thriving tourist destination.

Gujarat’s tableau, meticulously crafted and brimming with cultural vibrancy, promises to be a highlight of the Republic Day Parade. It serves not just as a window into the state’s rich heritage but also as a testament to the indomitable spirit of its border communities.
