GandhinagarGujarat Police has intensified its crackdown on drug cartels, conducting over 30 raids across multiple states in the past two and a half years. These operations have resulted in the seizure of narcotics worth crores of rupees and the arrest of 397 accused. Efforts are still underway to apprehend another 100 suspects.

Minister of State for Home Affairs, Harsh Sanghvi, revealed these details during a discussion in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, highlighting the state’s aggressive stance against drug trafficking on Monday.

As of January 31, 2025, the police in Bharuch and Surat districts have successfully confiscated various types of narcotics, including ganja, mephedrone, charas, opium, LSD, and pentazocine, among others. The seizures mark a significant success in Gujarat’s anti-drug operations, reinforcing the commitment of law enforcement agencies in tackling this growing menace. The value of the seized drugs runs into crores, indicating the scale of illegal narcotics trade being dismantled by the authorities.

Minister Harsh Sanghvi emphasized that Gujarat Police, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, has launched a systematic war against drugs. He noted that the state police is working proactively to intercept narcotics before they enter Gujarat. Beyond local crackdowns, Gujarat Police has extended its operations to other states, conducting more than 30 raids in the past year alone. These efforts have led to the dismantling of drug networks operating at a national level, preventing a substantial quantity of narcotics from reaching Gujarat.

Despite the success in making numerous arrests, around 100 accused remain at large. The police are using informants and technical surveillance to track them down. Coordination with law enforcement agencies in other states is ongoing, as some of the accused are reportedly imprisoned outside Gujarat, while a few have been traced to other countries. Authorities are taking all necessary measures to ensure their arrest and further strengthen the legal proceedings against them.
