Gandhinagar | Gujarat — In a significant move to bridge the gap between education and industry demand, the Gujarat government has rolled out a series of new-age technology courses across Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), aiming to prepare thousands of young people for careers in rapidly expanding sectors such as artificial intelligence, renewable energy, electric vehicles, automation and smart manufacturing.

The Labour, Skill Development and Employment Department has introduced 11 technology-driven courses, including AI Programming Assistant, Drone Pilot, Solar Technician (Electrical), Mechanic Electric Vehicle, Advanced CNC Machining, Additive Manufacturing Technician (3D Printing), Technician Mechatronics, Computer-Aided Manufacturing Programmer, IoT Technician (Smart Agriculture), IoT Technician (Smart City), and Smartphone Technician-cum-App Tester.

“These courses have been launched to create a skilled workforce for rapidly growing sectors such as renewable energy, electric mobility, automation, smart manufacturing, artificial intelligence and digital technologies,” said Labour, Skill Development and Employment Minister Kunvarji Bavaliya.

Highlighting the objective behind the initiative, Bavaliya said the courses are designed to keep Gujarat’s skill development ecosystem aligned with changing industrial requirements while expanding employment opportunities for youth.

Minister of State for Labour, Skill Development and Employment Kantilal Amrutiya said the new courses have added 3,312 seats across government, grant-in-aid and self-financed ITIs. “The objective is to empower young people with future-ready skills and create a workforce capable of meeting industry demands in emerging sectors,” he said.

The courses have been introduced in 73 ITIs, including 67 government-run institutes. Officials noted that Gujarat’s leadership in renewable energy and the rapid growth of the electric vehicle market make such training essential. Gujarat currently accounts for 16.5 per cent of India’s renewable energy capacity, with installed renewable power capacity reaching 42.583 GW by December 2025.

The state’s EV sector is also witnessing strong growth. In March 2026, Gujarat recorded 12,729 EV registrations, a 75.5 per cent increase compared to the same month last year. Pure electric vehicle registrations surged by 111 per cent, underscoring the growing need for trained technicians and maintenance professionals.

To support hands-on learning, 40 electric vehicles have been distributed to ITIs across the state. Officials said the initiative aligns with the broader vision of Skill India and Atmanirbhar Bharat, ensuring Gujarat’s youth are equipped with the confidence, capabilities and technical expertise required for tomorrow’s economy.
