Gujarat CM Launches GIFT City’s Fintech Innovation Hub

Gandhinagar : Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the GIFT International Fintech Institute (GIFT-IFI) and the GIFT International Fintech Institute Innovation Hub (GIFT-IFIH) at GIFT City, marking a significant step toward strengthening the fintech ecosystem in Gujarat.
Speaking at the event, CM Patel highlighted the growing importance of the fintech revolution in India under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. “Over the last decade, India has witnessed a remarkable digital transformation in financial services, emerging as a global leader in the fintech sector,” he stated. “GIFT City exemplifies our Prime Minister’s vision of establishing India as a global fintech hub.”
Pioneering Initiatives in Fintech
The newly inaugurated GIFT-IFI and GIFT-IFIH aim to foster a startup ecosystem in Gujarat, providing entrepreneurs and young professionals with tools, mentorship, and a platform to innovate. Spanning 1,800 square feet in Tower-2 of GIFT City, the innovation hub offers “ready-to-use” space and will serve as a springboard for fintech startups.
GIFT City Chairman Dr. Hasmukh Adhia emphasized the necessity of such initiatives in Gujarat. “This innovation hub will provide short-term training in the fintech sector while offering startups critical support to showcase their skills and thrive,” Dr. Adhia remarked. He lauded the state government’s role in bringing the project to fruition in record time.
GIFT City MD and CEO Tapan Ray elaborated on the hub’s objectives during his welcome address, highlighting its potential to create opportunities for young entrepreneurs and promote employment in the fintech sector.
Global Collaborations and Academic Support
The event was graced by notable dignitaries and industry leaders, including Jojo Flores, Co-Founder of Plug and Play, a partner platform of the initiative; Shri Pankaj Chandra, Vice Chancellor of Ahmedabad University; and Shri Rajat Moona, Director of IIT Gandhinagar. They emphasized the global collaborations and academic backing that would strengthen the institute’s impact.
Aarti Mehra, Deputy Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), also shared insights into the fintech sector’s growth trajectory.
CM Patel expressed optimism about Gujarat’s potential to lead the global fintech revolution by 2029, fueled by the skills and innovation of young professionals. “This Fintech Innovation Hub will not only fulfill the Prime Minister’s vision of IT—India Tomorrow—but also provide countless opportunities for startups and entrepreneurs,” he said.
With GIFT City now housing India’s only International Financial Services Centre and Bullion Exchange, the GIFT-IFI and GIFT-IFIH are set to further Gujarat’s standing as a global fintech hub, driving economic growth and innovation in the state.
Leaders from the fintech industry, young entrepreneurs, and students attended the inaugural session, underscoring the event’s importance in shaping India’s fintech landscape.
