Gandhinagar :  Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has extended a special gift to Gujarat’s women MLAs on the occasion of International Women’s Day by announcing an additional grant of ₹2 crore each for road development works in their constituencies for the financial year 2025-26.

This decision benefits 14 women MLAs of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, who will now have enhanced resources to undertake crucial infrastructure projects, particularly in road development. The grant comes as an addition to the regular funds allocated to MLAs for public welfare initiatives, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to advancing local development and women’s leadership in governance.

Following the announcement, the women MLAs met CM Bhupendra Patel at the Legislative Assembly Office, expressing their gratitude for his development-focused approach. They acknowledged that the additional grant would help address critical infrastructure needs in their constituencies, improving connectivity and benefiting local communities.

₹50 Lakh for “Catch the Rain” Campaign

In alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for water conservation, CM Patel has urged each woman MLA to allocate ₹50 lakh from the additional grant towards the “Catch the Rain” campaign. This initiative aims to promote rainwater harvesting and sustainable irrigation practices, ensuring efficient water resource management across the state.

The “Catch the Rain” campaign, launched nationwide, emphasizes pre-monsoon water conservation measures such as rejuvenating water bodies, installing rooftop rainwater harvesting systems, and improving irrigation channels. By directing part of their funds towards this cause, the women MLAs will contribute significantly to Gujarat’s water sustainability efforts.

CM Patel’s decision highlights the Gujarat government’s dual focus on infrastructure growth and environmental responsibility, setting an example of proactive governance. The move also reinforces the administration’s commitment to empowering women representatives and strengthening their role in state development.

With this additional funding, Gujarat’s women MLAs are poised to make a meaningful impact in their constituencies, not just by enhancing road networks but also by promoting crucial water conservation efforts in line with national objectives.
