Surat : Employees of the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) in Surat have issued a stern warning to go on mass casual leave (CL) as a mark of protest against the State Government.

The demonstration, organized by ST (State Transport) employees, is a culmination of their mounting discontent over several pending demands, most notably the exclusion of ST employees from the recent increase in dearness allowance (DA) following the pay commission revisions.

The agitation took center stage as ST employees assembled at the Central Bus Station in Surat, donned black bands as a symbol of their protest, and raised vociferous slogans against the State Government. Their ultimatum is clear – if their demands are not met by October 30, they will proceed with their mass CL starting from November 3.

The crux of the matter lies in the unmet demands of ST employees, who are adamant that the State Government needs to address their grievances before the looming deadline. Failure to do so, they claim, will only intensify their protest.

The Gujarat ST Majdoor Mahasangh, representing the ST employees, asserted that while the government announced an increase in dearness allowance (DA), its benefits have not trickled down to the ST employees. Even under the 7th Pay Commission, ST employees have not received what they consider their rightful due. Additionally, the government’s declaration of a 20 percent pay raise for employees currently working on fixed wages has not extended to those employed by the ST Corporation.

The list of grievances is extensive, with as many as 10 different demands going unaddressed by the government, pushing the employees toward the path of agitation.
