Daman Poised For A Facelift with Daman Master Plan 2023

The Daman Master Plan, officially implemented in the Daman district starting Wednesday, marks a significant milestone in the region's journey towards holistic development.

Surat : The enchanting Union Territory of Daman, a beloved destination for leisure seekers and holidaymakers from Gujarat, is poised for a remarkable infrastructural transformation. The credit for this remarkable development goes to Praful Patel, the administrator of the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman-Diu, and Lakshadweep, who gave the green light to the Daman Master Plan—an outline development plan and draft general development rules for 2023—on the auspicious occasion of Vijaya Dashami.

The Daman Master Plan, officially implemented in the Daman district starting Wednesday, marks a significant milestone in the region’s journey towards holistic development.

Sources reveal that for more than four decades, from 1961 to 2003, the Union Territory of Daman had been devoid of formal developmental rules, hampering infrastructural growth and construction in areas designated as green zones and no-development zones. These restrictions prevented the residents of Daman from building their homes on their own land.

The advent of the Daman Master Plan heralds a new era of inclusive infrastructural development, breathing fresh life into the construction sector within the Union Territory. The master plan introduces provisions for an augmented Floor Space Index (FSI) in the real estate industry and the inclusion of previously excluded rural lands within the development zones.

With this historic move, the Daman Master Plan paves the way for multi-dimensional growth in rural areas, mirroring the increased FSI that urban areas will experience.

Notably, the draft of the Daman District Master Plan was unveiled earlier, making it the first to be announced. Administrator Praful Patel is expected to similarly usher in the development of Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli with their respective master plans in the near future. Under his leadership and direct guidance, the Daman District Administration meticulously prepared the Daman District Master Plan (Outline Development Plan and Draft General Development Rules for 2023) transparently, impartially, and without bias.

The process was characterized by a high degree of transparency and fairness. A notification issued on June 26, 2023, invited suggestions and objections to the master plan, affording every concerned party an opportunity to be heard. Notably, the entire process proceeded without a single instance of favoritism, exemplifying the administration’s unwavering commitment to transparency.

The new Daman District Master Plan maintains a keen focus on the development prospects of both urban and rural areas, promising a brighter and more vibrant future for the people of Daman.
