GMRC Show-Cause Notice In Surat Metro Mishap

According to the statement issued by GMRC, the span number 747-P748 in East-West Metro Corridor, Saroli, Surat for the Surat Metro project deformed on Tuesday.

Surat : The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRC) has issued a show-cause notice to the construction agency of Surat metro rail project after the under construction span at the East-West Metro corridor at Saroli tilted causing terror in the area on Wednesday. 

According to the statement issued by GMRC, the span number 747-P748 in East-West Metro Corridor, Saroli, Surat for the Surat Metro project deformed on Tuesday.  The methodology for restoration of deformed span no P747-P748 has been finalized after examining the position on site in consultation with General Engineering Consultants for this project M/s Systra-AECOM- EGIS-CEG Consortium, GMRC officials, Design Experts in this area and personals who dealt with similar incidents in other projects. 

The work has started accordingly. The work includes among others: a) Erection of ground support systems, b) De-stressing of the span, c) Observation of span / Launching Girder after de-stressing.

 The construction agency has been issued show-cause notice as per provision of tender and asked to reply within two days. The entire restoration work is being executed at the cost of the construction agency who will bear the entire cost as per provision of tender. The work is expected to be completed in three days keeping likely rains in view

The Surat metro rail project, slated to open in 2027, is intended to be a significant advancement for the city’s infrastructure. However, this incident has cast a shadow over its development. The mishap, which occurred during the installation of the overhead structure on the pillar, caused the entire slab of the span to sustain damage and tilt to one side.

Government officials quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation and investigate the cause of the fault. The performance of the construction company responsible for the project is now under scrutiny, with many raising concerns about their competence and the safety standards being followed.
