Ahmedabad : In a remarkable gesture of appreciation, the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) recognized Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi for their unwavering support of the diamond industry. The event, organised in collaboration with the Gem & Jewellery National Relief Foundation (GJNRF) at the Bharat Diamond Bourse, underscored Gujarat’s pivotal role in cementing India’s reputation as a global diamond hub.

The gathering brought together prominent industry leaders, who lauded the Gujarat government’s policies and initiatives that have enabled the diamond sector to thrive. Vipul Shah, Chairman of GJEPC, highlighted the importance of the state’s partnership with the industry. “Under the CM’s visionary leadership, the sector has continued to flourish, becoming a cornerstone of India’s gem and jewellery exports and a vital driver of economic growth. With over one million livelihoods linked to the diamond industry, we remain committed to further enhancing Gujarat’s global standing and contribution to India’s economic prosperity,” Shah said.

Gujarat accounts for over 80% of India’s diamond cutting and polishing operations, making it a crucial pillar of the country’s gem and jewellery exports. Cities like Surat and Ahmedabad have long been recognized as global hubs for diamond processing, with a skilled workforce and world-class infrastructure.

Mehul Shah, Vice-President of BDB, also expressed his gratitude to the state government. “Gujarat’s support has been instrumental in the growth of the diamond industry. The proactive policies, availability of skilled labor, and state-of-the-art facilities have placed India at the forefront of the global diamond market. The industry is poised for even greater achievements through continued collaboration and innovation,” he said.

The event served as a platform to discuss future opportunities, including expanding export markets, boosting infrastructure, and leveraging new technologies. It also reinforced the commitment of industry stakeholders to work closely with the Gujarat government to address challenges and explore new growth avenues.
