Porbandar : In a shocking incident late Sunday night, Pakistan Marines opened fire on an Okha-based vessel, off the Porbandar coast, within Indian waters. The attack caused panic among the fishermen onboard, leading to the vessel capsizing. Fortunately, all the fishermen were rescued by the Indian Coast Guard in a swift and courageous operation.

The incident, described as a “nefarious act” by Pakistan Marines, has once again highlighted the perils faced by Indian fishermen operating near the maritime boundary. This attack comes after a period of relative peace in the region, reigniting tensions and fear among the fishing community of Gujarat.

Eyewitnesses reported a chaotic scene as the Pakistani Marines targeted the fishing vessel, forcing the crew to abandon the capsized boat. The timely intervention of the Indian Coast Guard ensured the safe rescue of the stranded fishermen. Officials confirmed that the fishermen would be brought to Okha port by Monday afternoon.

The incident has created a palpable sense of fear among Gujarat’s fishing community. Fishermen from coastal areas like Okha and Porbandar frequently operate near the maritime border, where they are often at risk of harassment, detention, and attacks by Pakistan Marine Security Guards.

“This is not the first time such an incident has occurred,” said a local fisherman, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Pakistani Marines frequently target Indian boats, creating a constant threat to our livelihoods. We urge the government to strengthen patrols and provide us with better protection.”

The Indian Coast Guard’s prompt action was lauded by many, showcasing their preparedness and commitment to safeguarding India’s maritime borders. Efforts are also underway to recover the capsized vessel and investigate the circumstances of the attack.

Authorities are expected to discuss the incident with Pakistan through diplomatic channels to ensure the safety and security of Indian fishermen in the future. The Gujarat government has also assured full support to the affected fishermen and their families.
