As artificial intelligence becomes a defining force in global power dynamics, the race is no longer only about innovation — it is increasingly about regulation, control, and security.

At the centre of this debate is Anthropic’s Claude Mythos AI, a highly advanced cybersecurity-focused AI system that is drawing both praise and concern from governments around the world. From India to the United States, policymakers and security experts are questioning how to manage a technology capable of both protecting and disrupting the digital ecosystem.

What is Anthropic’s Claude Mythos AI?

Claude Mythos is part of Anthropic’s wider cybersecurity initiative known as Project Glasswing, a collaboration involving major technology companies such as Apple and Google. The initiative aims to detect and eliminate critical software vulnerabilities before cybercriminals can exploit them.

The system marks a major advancement in AI-powered security research. Anthropic claims that Claude Mythos can identify deeply hidden software flaws that have remained undiscovered for years, making it one of the most sophisticated AI tools developed for cybersecurity analysis.

Why are governments concerned?

While the technology has the potential to strengthen global cybersecurity, experts warn that the same capabilities could also be weaponised. Governments fear that AI systems capable of finding vulnerabilities at massive scale could eventually enable faster and more sophisticated cyberattacks if misused.

Concerns are also growing over unequal access to such powerful systems. Countries worry that only a handful of corporations and nations may control advanced AI cybersecurity tools, potentially creating major imbalances in digital defence capabilities.

From India to the US, officials are now debating how to regulate next-generation AI models without slowing innovation, as the line between cyber defence and cyber offence becomes increasingly blurred.
