Kheda | Gujarat –— Gujarat’s Kheda district was shaken after a family of four drowned in the Narmada main canal near Fatiyavada village in Kapadvanj taluka on Friday evening.

According to police, the incident occurred on Friday evening when Sapnaben Solanki, a resident of Muvada village, reached the canal bridge with her two daughters—three-year-old Niti and three-month-old Kali. For reasons yet to be determined, the mother allegedly threw both children into the fast-flowing canal before jumping in herself.

Moments later, her husband Vinubhai Solanki rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident. Witnesses said he immediately jumped into the canal in a desperate attempt to rescue his wife and daughters. However, due to the strong current and depth of the canal, all four members of the family drowned.

The incident quickly drew a large crowd, and locals alerted authorities. Teams from the Kapadvanj Fire Brigade and Atarsumba Police reached the site and launched a search operation with the help of local swimmers. After an intensive effort, the bodies of all four victims were recovered from the canal and sent for postmortem examination.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Vikramsinh Solanki confirmed the timeline of events, stating that the tragedy occurred around 5 pm. “All four individuals, including the two children, died in the incident. The bodies have been recovered and further investigation is underway,” he said.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident. Officials said the exact reason behind the suspected suicide remains unknown, and investigators are examining whether family or personal issues played a role.

The tragedy has left residents of the area mourning the loss of an entire family, once again highlighting the devastating impact of mental and emotional distress and the urgent need for community awareness and support systems.
