Rajkot : In a scathing attack on the Gujarat government’s recent crackdown on criminals, former Congress MLA Indranil Rajyaguru has accused the ruling BJP of using the action as a mere political gimmick. He has openly challenged Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi to a public debate, claiming he has a list of criminals and gangsters with alleged links to the BJP.

The Gujarat police, in response to growing criminal activities—particularly after violent incidents in Ahmedabad’s Vastral area—have identified over 7,000 history-sheeters across the state in just 100 hours. The government launched a statewide crackdown on March 19, targeting individuals involved in illegal construction, electricity theft, and other crimes. However, Rajyaguru has questioned the credibility of this move, calling it a selective operation designed to target those who oppose the BJP.

‘A Political Show, Not Justice’

Slamming the BJP’s actions, Rajyaguru stated,“This is just another BJP spectacle. Last year, they claimed to take strict action against loan sharks, but even today, these usurers roam free. The BJP itself is responsible for hooliganism in Gujarat. They act only against those who don’t pay ‘hafta’ (protection money) or refuse to vote for them.”

He further accused the state police of being used as a political tool, suggesting that BJP-backed criminals were being shielded while only selected individuals were targeted.

‘Why Was Action Delayed for So Long?’

Rajyaguru also questioned the timing of the government’s sudden action.

“If the BJP knew there were over 7,000 criminals in Gujarat, why didn’t they act earlier? The truth is, they are using the police for their own gains while allowing crime to flourish under their watch. If they truly wanted to eliminate crime, they would let the police work independently.”

‘I Have the List of BJP-Linked Criminals’

In a bold move, Rajyaguru challenged Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi to a public discussion on the issue.

“If you want a real list of criminals, look within the BJP itself. I challenge the Home Minister—sit down with me publicly, and I will hand over a list of criminals associated with the BJP. Investigate them and take action if you are serious about justice.”

Demand for Police Reforms

Beyond the immediate crackdown, Rajyaguru emphasized that Gujarat’s law and order system needs fundamental reforms. He stressed that unless police corruption is eliminated, such crackdowns would remain mere political stunts.

“Real justice will be served only when police stations function with integrity—when the guilty are punished regardless of political affiliation. Until then, this is just another BJP drama,” he added.
