Ahmedabad : The Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) in Ahmedabad district is rapidly progressing towards becoming a Greenfield Industrial Smart City, with an investment inflow of Rs 35,984.58 crore across various sectors. Announcing this development, Industries Minister Balwantsinh Rajput highlighted key projects, including the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway and the Dholera International Airport.

“The 110-km Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway will be completed by June 2025, reducing travel time between Ahmedabad and Dholera to just 50 minutes,” said Minister Rajput. The expressway is being developed under the Bharatmala Project by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on the EPC mode. Some sections of the project will be operational in 2025.

Dholera SIR’s Expansion and Development Plans

Dholera SIR, spanning 920 sq. km, includes 22 villages and was declared under the Gujarat Special Investment Region Act, 2009. To ensure planned development, six draft town plans have been divided into 27 preliminary town plans, out of which 11 are currently under process.

“As per the town planning model, 50% of the land is utilized for infrastructure and social amenities, while the remaining 50% is returned to the original landholders as ‘final plots’,” Rajput explained.

Dholera International Airport: A Key Project Underway

Another major infrastructure boost for the region is the Dholera International Airport, which is set to enhance connectivity and economic activity. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has floated tenders for the construction of site development, runway, taxiway, and other facilities.

“The terminal building and Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower construction process is also in progress,” the minister confirmed.

With the rapid pace of infrastructure development, Dholera SIR is emerging as a major industrial and investment hub in Gujarat, attracting industries, creating jobs, and ensuring sustainable urban growth.
