DNH Congress Seeks Action Against Two Officials Over BJP Event

SILVASSA : A political controversy has erupted in Dadra and Nagar Haveli after the Pradesh Congress Committee submitted a formal complaint seeking disciplinary action against Resident Deputy Collector Amit Kumar and Mamlatdar Bhavesh K. Patel over their alleged participation in a BJP event in Silvassa.

In a memorandum addressed to the President of India, dated August 28, Congress district president Prabhu Tokiya alleged that the two government officials appeared at the BJP event ‘Dus Saal Bemisaal’, held on August 26.

According to the complaint, Kumar was photographed on stage during the event and was allegedly seen feeding cake to BJP Gujarat president Mahesh Agaria and other party leaders. The complaint also names Patel as having shared the political platform.

The Congress has questioned whether the officials’ presence at the event was consistent with service conduct rules governing government employees.

“The administration must remain an instrument of the Constitution, not an extended wing of the ruling party,” Tokiya said in the memorandum.

The Congress has demanded the immediate suspension of both officials pending an independent inquiry. It has also sought a high-level investigation by the Ministry of Home Affairs or Department of Personnel and Training into what it describes as possible bureaucratic-political links in Silvassa.

The memorandum further seeks statutory show-cause notices requiring the officials to explain their alleged presence and conduct at the political programme.

The complaint also refers to media invitations, interviews and social media posts that, according to the Congress, highlight the officials’ participation.

The demands remain allegations made by the Congress, and the document does not establish that the officials violated service rules. Any disciplinary action would depend on an official inquiry and the responses of the officials concerned.

The complaint was submitted to the President of India, invoking the constitutional framework governing Union Territories.
