NAVSARI : What happens when the symbolism of Ganesha, India’s trance traditions and psychedelic electronic music collide? London-based Indian DJ and producer DJ Toons, aka Tirthank Kuntal Majmudar, attempts to answer that question through his upcoming project ‘Psy Ganesha’, released under his electronic alias Alakhbaza.
The pre-release project draws inspiration from Ganesha Chaturthi, Goa Trance and the intersection of Indian cultural traditions with contemporary psychedelic music. Rather than simply using Hindu imagery as a visual element, Toons explores the relationship between Indian spirituality, music and trance from the perspective of an Indian artist with Gujarati roots.
A central idea behind the project is Ganesha’s association with removing obstacles. That theme also connects with Toons’ accessibility work. In March 2026, he conducted a DJ workshop for visually impaired students in Gujarat, exploring how DJ education could rely on listening, touch, memory and familiarity with equipment rather than being dependent entirely on screens and waveforms.
The project also draws on the history of Goa Trance, where psychedelic electronic culture developed alongside distinctive Indian visual influences. Toons seeks to reinterpret that history through his own cultural background and connection to Gujarat’s Navsari.
“Electronic psychedelic trance did not invent musical trance,” the project background notes, pointing to India’s longstanding traditions of repetition, rhythm, drone and sustained concentration in forms including qawwali and classical music.
With more than 15 years of experience spanning Bollywood, house, EDM and psychedelic trance, Toons moved to London in 2022 and continues developing Alakhbaza as an experimental electronic identity.
